UNIVERSITY OF MACAU
Hi there!
I am Chengli Wang, an assistant professor in the Department of Government and Public Administration at the University of Macau.
My research lies at the intersection of experimental political science and information politics, focusing on how political rumors (fake news, dis- and mis-information), digital activism, and paranoia affect governance, regime legitimacy, and citizens’ perceptions. At the same time, I explore, from a comparative politics perspective, how information and new technology are transmitted, controlled, and distorted—and how these dynamics impact inequality and development in late-developing societies.
I received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, in May 2018, an M.A. in Law from Southwest University of Political Science and Law, and a B.A. in Public Administration from Beijing Normal University. I taught at the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics from August 2018 to July 2021.
My research has appeared or is forthcoming in the Journal of Development Economics, Comparative Political Studies, International Journal of Press/Politics, International Affairs, Political Studies, and Journal of Chinese Political Science, among other peer-reviewed journals.
